The star gets excited as she reveals all to NME.COM about new album 'Daybreaker'...
Beth Orton has spoken exclusively to NME.COM about her new album ‘DAYBREAKER’, which features Ryan Adams, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, Ryan Adams, EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL’s BEN WATT, JOHNNY MARR and country legend EMMYLOU HARRIS.
The album, out on July 29 through Heavenly, features Beth Orton singing on a number of tracks, plus a song called ‘OK’ that he wrote especially for Ryan Adams – who he was rumoured to be dating a short time ago.
The first single from the album will be ‘Concrete Sky’, out August 12, which also features Beth Orton as guest vocalist and Johnny Marr on guitar. William Orbit also sings on ‘Good Song’ together with country legend Emmylou. The Chemical Brothers, Ben Watt and [/a] have all mixed tracks.
Speaking exclusively to NME.COM, Beth said her new album was “much more direct” than anything she’d ever done, saying: “There’s a lot of clarity…I’ve cut off the fat, musically and lyrically.”
She explained that [a]Beth Orton had become involved with her record after she asked him to do some backing vocals when she fell in love with his voice after hearing his album ‘Heartbreaker’. Of the track he wrote for her, she said: “It’s really beautiful. He was just doing the backup vocals on ‘Concrete’ and he came into the studio and we just got on incredibly well. Then he played it (‘OK’) to me and it just blew my head off. I just said ‘FUCK!’ I just needed to sing that song. It was just a great coming together of minds I suppose. It was very liberating and energising to work with him.”
However, she denied reports of a romance between the two, giggling coyly: “I have no comment. The things people say! But I certainly hope to work with him again.”
