Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson triumph at Image Awards

Chris Brown and Rihanna are no-shows

Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson earned top honours at the 40th NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles last night (February 12).

The singers, who starred in the film ‘Dreamgirls’ together, both performed at the ceremony. Beyonce, who won the Female Artist award, sang ‘Halo’, while Hudson, who took home the Best New Artist trophy, performed ‘The Impossible Dream’ for legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, who received the President’s Award.

Meanwhile, Chris Brown and Rihanna, who were both nominated for awards, did not attend the ceremony. Brown was arrested earlier this week for a domestic dispute allegedly involving Rihanna, as previously reported.

Neither Brown nor Rihanna won in the categories for which they were nominated (Male Artist and Female Artist respectively).

Stevie Wonder concluded the ceremony by performing his 1976 song ‘Black Man’.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and performances of people of colour in the arts.
