OutKast rapper Big Boi signs up to appear on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’

Rapper reportedly agrees £300,000 fee to join Ron Atkinson and Abz from 5ive on UK reality show

OutKast rapper Big Boi has reportedly signed up to appear in the next series of Celebrity Big Brother in the UK.

The Sun claims that Big Boi will be joined in the house by model Sophie Anderton, Loose Women presenter Carol McGiffin and former football manager Ron Atkinson. Abz from the recently reunited boyband 5ive is also believed to be taking part in the reality TV series when it starts later this year. The last US hip-hop artist to appear on the series was Coolio, who finished in third place in 2009.

A source told the paper that: “Producers always like to mix things up with an American star and they hope Big Boi will do the business this year.”

It is believed the rapper, who has released two solo albums, including 2012 record ‘Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumours’, has agreed a fee of £300,000 to appear on the programme. A spokesperson for Channel 5 refused to comment on contestants before the series starts.

Meanwhile, a representative for Big Boi’s fellow OutKast star Andre 3000 has denied rumours that he will release his long-awaited debut solo album in 2014.

Rumours about the possibility of seeing a full length solo effort from the US rapper emerged recently when Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Programming and Specials, posted a message on Twitter suggesting that Andre 3000 had told him the album was due at the start of next year. However, a representative for the star clarified that: “regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014. There is no official confirmation on that report”.
