Bjork cancels headline slots at Primavera festivals

The 'Biophilia' artist will no longer appear at the events in Barcelona and Porto next month

Bjork has pulled her headline appearances at the Primavera festivals in Barcelona in Spain and Porto in Portugal next month because of an inflamed nodule in her throat.

The Icelandic singer was set to appear at the events in Barcelona on June 2 and in Porto on June 9, but has now cancelled the shows. Last month she cancelled two shows upon discovering the nodule. She had been playing her eighth studio album ‘Biophilia’ in residence at the Buenos Aires Centro de Exposiciones in Argentina but shelved the final shows of the run after the diagnosis.

Primavera has released a statement about the cancellations, saying they had to deliver the news with a ‘heavy heart’. They wrote:

After canceling some shows due to an inflamed nodule, Bjork’s specialist doctor advised her to keep resting and not to continue with the shows as they could bring a permanent damage to her voice. We are very sorry about any inconvenience this might bring, and appreciate your understanding. We wish Bjork a quick and full recovery to continue enjoying her talent soon.

The singer is still scheduled to play a number of other high profile festivals shows this summer, with slots at Open’er and Øya festivals still booked. Primavera have offered to refund day tickets for the days Bjork was supposed to play, if they were bought before May 10.
