FAT NECK’S GOT A BRASS NECK!

Karl 'Fat Neck' Power is good mates with Shaun Ryder and Bez...

The MANCHESTER UNITED fan who cheekily joined his team for their official photo before a Champions League game in MUNICH was also the inspiration behind the BLACK GRAPE single ‘FAT NECK’.

Karl Power, 33, from Manchester, is a stalwart of the local music scene, and drinking pals with Black Grape and Happy Mondays founders Shaun Ryder and Bez.

Fat Neck has become the darling of this morning’s tabloid press after donning a Manchester United strip, walking onto the pitch and joining the Manchester United line-up for their official team photograph prior to a vital Champions League Quarter final game against Bayern Munich on Wednesday (April 18).

Ryder gave Power the nickname ‘Fat Neck’, and wrote the song about him, which was released as a single between the release of their debut album ‘It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah!’ and the ill-received follow-up ‘Stupid, Stupid, Stupid’.

Speaking to The Star newspaper this today, Ryder said: “He’s a proper prankster. I’ve known him about 15 years and he’s always been one of the lads, and he’s pulled a lot of stunts in his time.

“This has to be one of the best ever though. He’s a good bloke and that’s why we named a record after him – because he’s such a character.”

Speaking to The Sun, Fat Neck added: “We managed to get down to the pitch side and waited for the players to come out of the tunnel…we saw an opening where there were no stewards.

“When the teams walked out I went to the players entrance and knew nothing was going to stop me! As I ran out the noise was incredible…and there I was with my boys.”
