Band aren't sure whether they want to follow-up '13'
Black Sabbath have admitted they are unsure whether they will release a new album.
The band released their first album in 18 years, ’13’, in June of this year and the LP went on to debut at Number One on the Official UK Album Chart to become their first chart-topper in nearly 43 years.
Discussing the prospects of recording another LP with Classic Rock, Geezer Butler said: “To me, it’s been nicely rounded off now. If we did another album, it just wouldn’t have the same vibe as far as I’m concerned. And with this one doing so well, the next one would have to be Number One everywhere too or people would see it as a failure.”
Meanwhile, guitarist Tony Iommi added: ”Making ’13’ was such a great, memorable experience, so if that’s the final chapter, we’d have to be happy. We’ve not spoken about [another album]. I don’t know if it would be the right thing to do. God knows what the expectations would be next time around… I’d probably have a heart attack worrying about it!”
Frontman Ozzy Osbourne also said that he was reluctant to confirm that the band would start work on another record given the lengthy wait before ’13’ was released. ”We’ll see what happens,” he said. “We made promises about another album 15 or 20 years ago and it took this long for it to come out. I don’t think you’ll see another one in 20 years, put it that way.”
Speaking to NME earlier this month, Osbourne opened up about his recent drug and alcohol relapse, which led to him temporarily separating from his wife Sharon. Speaking about her reaction to his drug use, he said: “She was very pissed off. I thought I was gonna lose my family at one point. Because when I go out, you wanna be careful when I come back home, because I’ll come through anywhere in the house bar the front fucking door. I’m fucking crazy.”
He added: “If you’re in a relationship, if you keep coming home and your wife’s terrified of you, if she doesn’t know if you’ll come back with five chicks and a crate of booze… I mean, you name it, I’ve done it. So she just said, ‘Look, I’ve got my own thing going on, and I can’t deal with you any more. Get the fuck out. Sort yourself out, then we’ll talk.’ I don’t blame her in the slightest.”
Osbourne’s Black Sabbath bandmates previously said they had no idea that the singer had relapsed. Iommi and Butler revealed that they were shocked to learn from Sharon that Ozzy was back drinking and taking drugs, especially since the singer was at Iommi’s house during his period of heavy abuse to record ’13’.
