'The Lonely Astronaut On Christmas Eve' is set for release this month
Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge is to release a children’s book for Christmas.
Titled The Lonely Astronaut On Christmas Eve, the book sees DeLonge working with illustrator Mike Henry. Singer and guitarist Delonge, who also fronts Angels And Airwaves (pictured inset), is a father of two.
Described in the press release as a “wistful story for the young and the young-at-heart alike” the story tells the “tale of a rocketeer alone on the moon on a cold Christmas night, and the gift he receives from a few unexpected (and extraterrestrial) friends”.
A three-page preview of the book is available to premium members of the Angels And Airwaves website now. Pre-orders for a limited edition package containing a hardback book with a certificate signed by DeLonge, a digital version of the book, a “clear acrylic etched ornament” and limited-edition T-shirt are being taken from November 25 at the same site, costing $50 (£31) and limited to 1,000 orders.
Earlier this year Blink-182 confirmed that they are planning to release a brand new album in the “late spring/early summer” of 2014. Bassist Mark Hoppus said that the trio are hoping to head into the studio at the start of next year and have the record out not long after. “We haven’t thought about any new songs yet,” said Hoppus, but explained that the band will write the new album when they reconvene in the studio.
“It always happens when the three of us are together in a room,” said Hoppus of writing. “Because when [we’re not touring], Tom lives in San Diego, Travis lives in Los Angeles and I live in London, so we don’t really talk all that much. But then when we get in a room together, it all falls into place and we start making jokes. That’s when we start writing songs and reconnecting with everything.”
