Blur’s Alex James: ‘I’ve basically become a monk’

Bassist has now started making beer at his farm

Blur‘s Alex James as likened himself to a monk after he revealed he’s started making beer at his farm.

The bassist is no stranger to venturing into the food and drink world, having been a cheese-maker for a number of years, and has now created his own brewery.

James told The Sun:

I’ve basically become a monk – I make cheese and now I’ve started making beer. It’s the monk’s life.

While there are no details as to when his special brew will be available to purchase, it’s unlikely that it will be ready for Blur’s Hyde Park gig on August 12.

Meanwhile, the bassist has been praising the chips he bought in a Little Chef restaurant. Bemoaning his poor chip cooking skills, James praised the culinary expertise of the roadside eatery, saying: “The chips are fucking amazing.”

He added: “I bought a complicated contraption for cooking chips. I thought that was the way forward until I found out Little Chef were using frozen ones. It made me think: ‘Why have I been f***ing about for five years trying to make the perfect chip at home when you can just do it the Little Chef way?'”

Damon Albarn recently denied that he was finished with Blur. The singer was quoted saying that Blur’s Hyde Park gig would be their last, but he has since said his bandmates had not discussed the “beginning or the end” of Blur.

Along with playing at Hyde Park, Blur are also scheduled to headline Sweden’s Way Out West festival in August.
