TWICE THE POWER!

The band celebrate the release of their new album with two shows in a night…

British Sea Power marked the release of their second album by playing two LONDON shows in a night yesterday (April 4).

The band who celebrated the release of ‘Open Season’, played an early evening seven-song set at the Oxford Circus HMV – which included the live debut of new track ‘North Hanging Rock’ along with tracks like ‘Carrion’ and recent single ‘It Ended On An Oily Stage’ – before shooting north to Camden.

At 10pm British Sea Power took to the stage at the Barfly, having been supported by Liverpool-based Alterkicks and impressive Londoners Vincent Vincent And The Villains, to play a full hour long set.

The songs played were:

‘It Ended On An Oily Stage’

’Remember Me’

’How Will I Ever Find My Way Home?’

’Please Stand Up’

’North Hanging Rock’

’Get To Sleep’

’The Spirit Of St Louis’

’Apologies To Insect Life’

’Carrion’

’Oh Larsen B’

’Lately’ (‘Rock In A’)

Speaking to NME.COM, singer Yan admitted it was the first time British Sea Power had played two shows in a night, but insisted the band coped.

“We’ve played half-an-hour sets before, we’ve played hour sets before,” he said of the two shows’ length, “and we’ve an for hour-and-a-half before, so this wasn’t too bad – we got a big rest in between the shows.”

The show, which was watched by former tourmates The Duke Spirit, witnessed the frontman crowd surf the entire length of the venue during the last song before helping himself to a punter’s pint, however Yan revealed that changes could be in store for the band’s forthcoming UK tour.

“I’d like to start with ‘Lately’, turn it on its head,” he explained. “I’m tired of smashing things up at the end. I just want to play our songs. I’m really looking forward to the tour, we’ve got some special guests joining us at the London date, I can’t say who it is as it’s top secret but it’s a band I really admire so it should be a great night.”

The band’s UK tour begins tomorrow (April 6) in Bristol, the full dates are:
