Producer worked on track for US star's forthcoming studio album 'Britney Jean'
William Orbit has discussed his work on Britney Spears‘ new album ‘Britney Jean’, saying he has become “a huge fan” of the US pop star.
Orbit, who recently criticised “really awful” Blur frontman Damon Albarn in an interview with NME, also revealed details of his work with Britney Spears for her forthcoming album. Describing the song ‘Alien’ that he has worked on for the December release, Orbit also talked about Las Vegas, where Spears will soon begin a residency after signing a deal with Planet Hollywood.
“I’ve done one song for the new album, called ‘Alien’, which is really good,” says Orbit. “I’ll be in Vegas, seeing the show. I’ve become a huge fan of hers, actually. I always liked her, but when I started to dig into her repertoire – and there’s masses of it – I became a superfan, really. You’ll find me in the audience singing along.”
Moving on to the subject of Las Vegas and it’s evolving nightlife, Orbit continues: “It’s kind of become the EDM capital of America now. That’s the stuff that people who go there want to hear. They don’t want to hear Tony Bennett any more.”
Meanwhile, a new musical will tell the story of Jesus Christ using the songs of Spears. Spears The Musical: The Gospel According To Britney is currently being developed for the stage, with a preview of the show to be held for funders in New York on November 7. The production will give an account of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus by using Spears hits such as ‘Stronger’, ‘…Baby One More Time’ and ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy’.
Last month, it was revealed that Spears’ songs were also being used by navy officers to scare Somali pirates off the coast of east Africa. Songs including ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ and ‘…Baby One More Time’ have proved best at keeping the pirates away, according to reports, with officers playing the songs in the direction of the pirates through speakers.
Britney Spears recently revealed that her new album will be called ‘Britney Jean’. The pop singer will release her eighth album on December 3. It is the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Femme Fatale’.
