SATURDAY NIGHT BRITNEY!

The pop sensation performs a number of sketches on the US comedy show - and gives the audience a musical treat too...

Pop princess Britney Spears performed double-duty on long-running US sketch comedy show ‘SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’ over the weekend, appearing as both the show’s host and musical guest (February 2).

At the start of the show, ‘SNL’ cast member Chris Kattan appeared on stage dressed up as Britney Spears in a shiny gold top, only to begin arguing with the real Britney Spears, in a similar outfit, about which of them was the genuine article.

Britney Spears then brought her boyfriend, N Sync star Justin Timberlake, out to settle the issue. Justin approached the real Britney Spears, then told her, “Listen, I just wanted to say I had a really good time last night.”

“Justin, that wasn’t me,” answered Britney Spears, to which Timberlake did his best to look disgusted and exclaimed, “Kattan, you gotta stop doing that!”

Britney Spears appeared in a number of comedy skits throughout the hour-and-a-half show, playing an animal handler on a talk show, a pothead college student named Summer, and a Skipper doll who finds out Barbie is actually her mother, not her sister. In the role of a B-movie sci-fi queen, she pleaded with an astronaut for help, only to have him say, “Why don’t you drop that green jumpsuit and show me that fat ass?”

Meanwhile, Britney Spears performed two musical numbers on the show – an understated rendition of ‘I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman’, which saw her accompanied on piano, abandoning her usual theatrics to focus on her vocals, and ‘Boys’, which, in contrast, featured a full dance routine and obvious lip-synching.
