BRITNEY’S PEP TALK

The star says she's following in the footsteps of her heroes in endorsing the soft drink - think she means the Spice Girls...

BRITNEY SPEARS has signed a sponsorship deal with PEPSI, making her the latest musician to lend their name to the soft drink brand.

Spears announced the deal yesterday (February 6), and told fans she is following in the footsteps of “all of my heroes” in endorsing the soft drink.

Other musicians who have endorsed Pepsi include Michael Jackson, Spice Girls, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue, in her native Australia.

Speaking at a conference in New York yesterday (February 6), Spears said: “I’m so happy to be here today with all of you, It’s such an honour”, according to Reuters.

Although the exact details of the contract remain undisclosed, a UK spokesperson for Pepsi told NME.COM today (February 7) the deal will last for a number of years, and is “global”. However, he added it will be “led by the US”, implying television commercials featuring the star, which are rumoured to debut on US television during the Academy Awards on March 25, are less likely to appear in the UK in the immediate future.

The deal also involves backing on her world tours.
