SUPERSTARS BRING NEW YEAR CHEER

The superstars show what big hearts they have...

Britney Spears, *NSYNC and Wyclef Jean plan to extend the season of goodwill, with charity gigs lined up for JANUARY next year.

Pop princess Britney and heart-throbs *NSYNC head up a 98-artist bill including local Brazilian groups in Rio De Janeiro for ‘Rock In Rio For A Better World’, a week-long festival which kicks off on January 12, 2001.

The event, which organisers hope will be broadcast to 1 billion people in 50 countries if planned TV licensing deals come off, will raise money for the Viva Rio project, which provides social care and educational resources for 11,000 young people in Rio.

Meanwhile Wyclef Jean has announced details of a benefit gig to boost funds for his Wyclef Jean Foundation, which promotes social programmes and aid for impoverished communities around the world.

The concert on January 19 will be the first hip-hop gig held at New York‘s illustrious Carnegie Hall, and Wyclef will be joined on stage by Clef’s Kids, a group of talented New York children.

The Fugees previously performed benefit gigs in Haiti and Miami for Haitian refugees.
