Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel to perform at Barack Obama benefit

Ticket prices are up to $10,000 for New York show

Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel have confirmed they will perform at a benefit for Barack Obama next month in New York City.

Further performers will also be announced for the benefit which will take place October 16 at Hammerstein Ballroom.

With seat prices ranging from $500 to $10,000 the event will raise funds for the Democratic presidential hopeful in the weeks leading up to the general election on November 4.

Springsteen officially announced his support of Obama in April when he said on his website that Obama has “the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years”

“After the terrible damage done over the past eight years, a great American reclamation project needs to be undertaken” Springsteen continued.” I believe that Senator Obama is the best candidate to lead that project and to lead us into the 21st Century with a renewed sense of moral purpose and of ourselves as Americans. Over here on E Street, we’re proud to support Obama for President.”

Meanwhile, Springsteen is set to perform the half-time event during the 2009 Super Bowl in February.
