His likely Number One 'Bounce' passed muster in his bathroom
Calvin Harris has revealed that the secret behind his hitmaking is sitting on the toilet.
On course for a Number One single this Sunday (June 19) with his Kelis collaboration ‘Bounce’, he has revealed that he tests his material out in the bathroom.
Harris told the Daily Star: “DJs don’t have to worry about playing my music – because I always test my tracks a million times before they go off. On the toilet is the best listening time. Put your computer on the bathroom floor and it amplifies the sound.”
He also expressed surprise that Kelis agreed to sing the vocal on his new single. He said: “When I wrote ‘Bounce’ I wanted a female voice. I thought about getting Kelis but then thought, ‘Nah, she’ll never do it. But after a few phone calls I was amazed that she said yes.”
But Harris had an easy explanation for the success of him and his contemporaries, saying: “European dance music is taking over the world. America loves it more than we do. At the moment there are more resident European DJs in Las Vegas than there are in Ibiza, that’s how popular dance music is. I go there twice a month.”
Harris concluded: “All I do is make music. It’s not work for me. I mean it’s not like gutting a fish. So it’s important I make an album of variety. All of the songs have to sound different for me otherwise I may as well go and make JLS songs. I’m also swapping remixes with people. I’ve just done one for Nero. I’d love to do one with producer Nile Rodgers.”
