Kent man has music equipment seized for playing Celine Dion too loud

Council spokesperson says 'People have the right to lead a peaceful existence without it being ruined by loud music'

A Kent man has had thousands of pounds of musical equipment seized for blasting out Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’, James Brown’s ‘Love Machine’ and the theme from the Pixar film ‘Toy Story’.

The man, in his 40s, was found to have breached a noise abatement notice six times when local enforcement officers noticed music being played in the afternoon and early evening. Medway council said he made his neighbours’ lives a misery, reports the BBC.

A 3D TV, laptop, speakers, a PlayStation 3, 32 DVDs, a docking station and a number of CDs were seized. The goods are now in storage and the man can appeal for their return after 28 days.

Medway Council’s Peter Hicks said: “It only takes one complaint, as in this case, and we will act. People have the right to lead a peaceful existence without it being ruined by loud music. We won’t tolerate this sort of behaviour, and anyone who blasts out music or creates other noise nuisance should let this be a warning to them.”

In February this year, Thomas Alcock, 18, from Dewsbury in West Yorkshire had over 200 CDs seized for playing Adele’s music at a “prominent, intrusive and very high level”.
