Singer praises 'I Love It' as being "so wrong it's right"
The singer-songwriter, who has enjoyed recent success with her Iggy Azalea collaboration ‘Fancy’ as well as solo single ‘Boom Clap’, spoke to Digital Spy about new songs she has been writing with producers Stargate (Rihanna, Ne-Yo).
Discussing the song she wrote with them, Charli said: “I’ve played it to a couple of people and they’re like, ‘Oh my God this sounds like it’s going to go into an Avicii kind of moment!’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah but just wait’, and then it doesn’t and it does something totally awesome and cool. That’s what I like about them, they’re kind of on the line and I feel the same way about myself sometimes. ‘I Love It’ is one of the most annoying songs in the world but it’s kind of cool and it’s the same with ’90s fashion which I’m obsessed with – it’s so wrong it’s right.”
Charli XCX recently told NME about her desire to make music that appeals to the same number of people as ‘I Love It’ and ‘Fancy’, stating: “I’m not making a hipster record that’s very cool and sounds like it was made at the beach. It’s easy for me to make a record like that. I’m making a record that people might fucking hate but I don’t care because I’ve done it the way I want to do it.”
