Nile Rodgers earns £12.30 busking on London’s South Bank

The Chic star played to a small crowd this morning following his British Summer Time gig in Hyde Park

Nile Rodgers went busking on London’s South Bank this morning (June 22).

The funk legend earned £12.30 in 20 minutes and posted pictures on social media following his impromptu performance. “This really was a blast today. I truly used to like busking. I made a decent living and some lifelong friends,” he wrote, adding that he started out his musical career when he was young and homeless by busking.

Rodgers played British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park the previous day (June 21) alongside Grace Jones and Kylie.

Earlier this year he spoke about the modern musicians that he admires. The Chic star has experienced a huge comeback since collaborating with Daft Punk on ‘Get Lucky’ in 2013. Talking to Q, he listed a few more acts he’d be open to teaming up with.

Rodgers told the publication that he thinks The Strokes “are awesome”, that he’s a fan of Arctic Monkeys and would like to work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “I’d most like to do the Red Hot Chili Peppers,” he said. “I’ve always dug them for some reason.”

The guitarist also described himself as “the biggest Miley Cyrus fan on the planet”, adding: “I’ve watched her sing live twice, my jaw dropped!”
