The singer must do community labour

Chris Brown was sentenced in Los Angeles today (August 25) for the beating of his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna.

The 20-year-old R&B singer was sentenced to five years’ probation and 180 days of community labour, reports Reuters. He will also be required to attend a domestic violence counselling programme for one year.

The sentencing was delayed from earlier this month because Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg requested information from Brown‘s home state of Virginia to determine whether he could do community labour there.

The judge had indicated that she wants him to do community work, which may include roadside clean-up or graffiti removal, rather than community service.

Today’s sentencing comes on the heels of a plea deal in which the singer pleaded guilty to assault charges. It stems from an altercation in which Brown beat Rihanna while in a parked car last February following a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles.
