R&B singer admitting probation violation in court on Friday (May 9)

Chris Brown is to spend an additional 131 days in prison after admitting violating his probation.

BBC News report that Brown confirmed in a Los Angeles court on Friday (May 9) that he committed a crime in Washington DC in October 2013. The charge relates to an incident in which a man claims he was punched by Brown outside a hotel in the capital.

The Los Angeles judge sentenced Brown to 365 days but gave him credit for 234 days he has spent in rehab and jail.

The artist was previously arrested at a California rehab centre in March of this year after being dismissed from the facility in Malibu where he was being treated for anger management, substance abuse and bipolar disorder.

Brown entered the rehab facility in November, after being sentenced to three months of in-patient rehab. This was recommended by probation officers overseeing him after he was punished for the attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Brown’s fifth album, ‘X’, has been delayed several times as a result of the misdemeanors. A new release date has not yet been set.
