Chris Evans to host Brit Awards

The star will return to the ceremony in 2006

Chris Evans is to host The Brit Awards 2006.

The television star presented the event at last year’s 25th anniversary show and will return for his second successive year on February 15 at London’s Earls Court.

“I’m absolutely thrilled,” he said. “It’s my fourth time so I should be getting good at it by now. All the main players should be there this year and there could be some fireworks with a few old scores to be settled – let’s hope so.”

Chairman of the BPI and The Brit Awards Peter Jamieson added: “‘We’re delighted to have Chris back. His genuine love of music and special brand of humour make him an ideal choice to present The Brits.”

The Brit Awards will be also be broadcast on ITV (February 16), and 16 gongs will be handed out to celebrate this year’s best in British music.

Nominations will be unveiled at the capital’s Riverside Studios on January 10, with Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox hosting.

The Magic Numbers and KT Tunstall are set to play at the launch party, with one more act still to be announced.

The ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music Award’ will be presented to Paul Weller in recognition of his musical career and he will be performing live at the awards ceremony on February 15.
