‘Shotgun’ was recorded by Aguilera for her role in the US musical drama Nashville.

It’s one of two new songs recorded by the singer for the series and will be released alongside ‘The Real Thing’ as a single on April 21.

Aguilera’s first appearance in the show aired in America on April 15. She is due to star in three episodes in total as Jade St. John, the ex-fiancee of former record label boss Jeff Fordham, it marks a return to acting for Aguilera, who starred in the 2010 film Burlesque.

Speaking to ABC News, Aguilera described the character. “Jade St. John is a pop star, but her first love is in country and she really wants to make a country album,” she said. “And as she’s passing by town with her tour, she really takes the opportunity to sort of experience Nashville and make some contacts for herself. But really she’s just a huge fan of country and she just wants to dive right in.”

The Academy of Country Music Awards also saw a moving tribute to Taylor Swift as she was presented with the ‘Milestone Award for Youngest ACM Entertainer of the year’ by her mother Andrea Swift.

“I’ve watched this milestone artist since she was a tangled hair little girl on our farm,” Andrea Swift said.

Taylor Swift collected the award and thanked the country music community for supporting her decision to make a pop album. “When I told you I had made a pop album and wanted to go explore other genres, you showed me who you are with the grace you accepted that with,” Taylor said.

“I will never forget it. I’m so happy, so happy that I learned how to write songs in a town like Nashville. I’m so grateful that I learned what hard work is from my heroes who are all sitting here. And I’m so unbelievably proud that I learned to treat people with kindness and respect from country music. I love you so much. “

Taylor Swift recently revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer.
