Chvrches recently claimed that they would have sold more albums if they presented the band as if lead singer Lauren Mayberry was a solo artist.
The trio, Mayberry is joined by Martin Doherty and Iain Cook in the band, have always maintained a united front and refuse to do interviews or photoshoots apart from one another.
Speaking in a new interview with The Guardian, Doherty admitted that this may have lessened the commercial success of their debut album to some extent, but that he feels it was the right choice for their long term prospects.
“We could have sold 200,000 more albums if we’d hidden Iain and I from view and put Lauren on the cover of every magazine,” he said. “But there’s 100 of those acts and that stuff goes away.”
Mayberry agrees, adding: “We wanted to establish [Chvrches] as a band first and foremost, and have that base. Then you can move on from that. We’ve done a couple of women’s mags but we tend to talk about feminism and women in the industry, which I feel more comfortable talking about.”
Chvrches will play the following live dates:
Brighton Dome (November 16)
Bristol O2 Academy (17)
Manchester Albert Hall (19)
Newcastle O2 Academy (21)
Aberdeen Music Hall (23)
Dundee Fat Sam’s (24)
Birmingham O2 Academy (25)
London Alexandra Palace (27)
