Coldplay premiere new video following surprise Kylie Minogue appearance at Sydney gig

Coldplay have issued the video for new single ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’ – scroll down to watch.

The video was shot by Mat Whitecross (director of Stone Roses-inspired 2013 movie Spike Island) on the streets of Sydney, Australia, and features hundreds of Coldplay fans, who responded to a call on Twitter asking fans to “bring a smile” and assemble at 11.30am at the Courthouse Hotel on the corner of Australia Street and Lennox Street.

As Sydney Morning Herald down King Street in Newtown, where a team of bouncers cleared the pavements to allow the band to stroll casually down the street. The reporter describes the scene as a “frenzy”.

Coldplay performed at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre today (June 19) and welcomed Kylie Minogue on stage to perform an encore of two songs: ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’, her 1995 duet with Nick Cave, and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, her 2001 hit. Coldplay previously performed the latter track – minus Minogue – at Glastonbury in 2005.

‘A Sky Full Of Stars’ is the second single to be taken from the band’s acclaimed new album. Last month (May 25) ‘Ghost Stories’ was named as the band’s sixth consecutive Number One album by the Official Charts Company, selling 168,000 copies in just one week. Altogether, the band have sold 11.1 million albums in the UK since the release of their debut, 2000’s ‘Parachutes’.
