Band perform 'Fans' with frontman of previous night's headliners in Glasgow
Martin and his Coldplay bandmates performed new songs and old as they headlined the first night of the two-day event at Glasgow Green, but the lead singer returned to the site on the second day to perform alongside the US band.
Introduced by Caleb Followill, who said: “I’d like to introduce the second most famous singer here today. He says he isn’t going to sing but we’ll see.” Martin then played guitar and provided backing vocals on ‘Fans’, a song that originally featured on Kings of Leon’s third album ‘Because Of The Times’.
The performance with the Followill family capped a momentous day for Martin yesterday, with Coldplay securing their sixth Number One album in the UK later in the evening. ‘Ghost Stories’ became the fastest selling album of 2014 after selling 168,000 copies since its release last Monday (May 19).
Altogether, the band have sold 11.1 million albums in the UK since the release of their debut, 2000’s ‘Parachutes’.
