Emily Eavis: ‘Chris Martin convinced Beyonce to do Glastonbury’

Organiser says Coldplay man will 'do anything for Glastonbury'

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was the man who convinced Beyonce to headline Glastonbury according to Emily Eavis.

Speaking to the Radio Times, via Contactmusic, Eavis also said that Martin played an active role in putting the bill together for the Worthy Farm event.

She said: Chris is a bit wary of people knowing he’s been so involved. I don’t know why because it’s actually cool. Chris is as loyal as they come – he’ll do anything for Glastonbury. He’s really an unlikely frontman. Most people are a bit more all-consumed with their own thing.”

Eavis also revealed that they booked the ‘4’ singer early so she could fit her touring commitments around the festival.

She added: “Luckily, we spoke to Beyonce before she planned her tour this year, so she managed to put Glastonbury in her schedule, then build a European tour around it.”

Glastonbury takes place this weekend (June 24-26), and will be headlined by U2 and Coldplay as well as Beyonce.
