COLDPLAY were joint top winners at the 2003 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS in NEW YORK’s RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL last night (August 28), picking up three awards for the ‘THE SCIENTIST’.
The group won gongs in the Best Group Video, Breakthrough Video and Best Direction In A Video categories, equalling the honours awarded to Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.
Timberlake scooped the Best Male Video and Best Pop Video prizes for ‘Cry Me A River’ as well as Best Dance Video for ‘Rock Your Body’. Beyonce’s ‘Crazy In Love’ featuring Jay-Z won awards for Best R&B Video, Best Female Video and Best Choreography In A Video.
The coveted Best Video Of The Year gong went to Missy Elliott for ‘Work It’, which also claimed the Best Hip-Hop Video prize. 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ won the Best Rap Video and Best New Artist In A Video categories.
