Watch Coldplay fan nearly propose to wrong woman at Melbourne gig

Frontman Chris Martin brought the wrong fan onto the stage

Coldplay fan nearly proposed to the wrong woman at the band’s concert in Australia at the weekend.

The band played at The Etihad in Melbourne on Saturday (December 10) when frontman Chris Martin stopped the show to pull a man onstage along with a woman he believed to be his girlfriend.

“I’m a sucker for this shit, I can’t say no,” Martin said, shouting, “Let’s get married up in here!” When he realised his mistake, he asked if there were “any takers” willing to marry the fan.

The right woman eventually took to the stage and said yes, with Martin and band leading into a performance of ‘A Sky Full of Stars’. Watch in the video below.

Fans and viewers have reacted angrily after Coldplay beat David Bowie to be crowned ‘British Artist Of The Year’ at last night’s BBC Music Awards.

While Bowie has featured in a montage obituary video to those we’ve lost in the last year, Coldplay provided live footage of them performing ‘Everglow’ during the ceremony.

Following his death, Coldplay revealed that Bowie once turned down the opportunity to collaborate with them. Singer Chris Martin sent him a letter asking him to be involved and, drummer Will Champion told NME, Bowie replied, “It’s not a very good song, is it?” Coldplay’s reaction was to not be overly phased – Champion noted, “He was very discerning – he wouldn’t just put his name to anything. I’ll give him credit for that!”
