So how will the likes of Courtney, Brandon and Jake be voting? Read on and find out...

With the elections taking place in the US today (November 2), musicians around the globe are still rallying to get their political views heard.

Moby’s posted four times in his online journal today, urging voters against George Bush, while Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl sent a message to his mailing list this morning telling fans to “get your ass out there and vote, you already know that this election is the most important election of our lifetime”.

NME has quizzed artists on how they’ll be voting in one of the most hotly contested elections ever.

JAKE SHEARS, The Killers

Bush, Kerry, Nader or Other?

“Last election I voted for Nader, which got everybody into trouble, but I’m going to go for Kerry because we’ve got to get Bush out of office. I’m not crazy about Kerry but it’s desperate times right now. It’s looking pretty grim.”

Who’s your fantasy presidential candidate?

“Mine is Phil Donahue [a former US daytime chat show host]. I always thought Phil Donahue would make a great, great politician. And you know another one, I think Gore Vidal [US writer] is an incredibly smart, crazy, amazing individual. He’s amazing. He’s an American. He’s like a contemporary Mark Twain. He’s a man of letters, he’s accomplished and he’s getting up there, but he writes incredible political essays.”

What’s the first thing you’d do if you were elected president?

“Oh my god! That’s a tough one. If I was elected president I would go walk off the top of a tall building.”

Why is the US election important/Why is important for Americans to vote?

“Because we could end up totally screwed. I think in a lot of ways we’re screwed either way. It’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I think it’s going for the lesser of two evils. It’s so hard to tell a difference between the two candidates a lot of the time, but I think it’s important for people in America to vote in general because you’ve got to get out there. Everybody counts and I don’t think people believe that any more. I don’t think people believe that it necessarily matters as much as it does.”

Franz Ferdinand

Bush, Kerry, Nader or Other?

“Kerry, as there’s no other choice and I and many other Americans had fun under Clinton and no fun under Bush.”

Who’s your fantasy presidential candidate?

“Me. I just got a Paris Hilton for President T-shirt. She’s my friend and I know she’d wear one with my name. Or Tina Fey from [American late night sketch comedy show] Saturday Night Live. She’s just really responsible and she gets the joke.”

What’s the first thing you’d do if you were elected president?

“I’d get teachers a lot more money, get a lot of educational things done and socialise medicine to some degree, and legalize drugs”.

Why is the US election important/Why is important for Americans to vote?

“So that Tony Blair won’t look like such a dork during the next presidential term and so we won’t have a civil war with the British.”

BRANDON FLOWERS, [/a]

Bush, Kerry, Nader or Other?

“For me it’s really none of the above. I do believe Nader just messes it up.”

Who’s your fantasy presidential candidate?

“I would have really liked to see Colin Powell. It’s a shame that because of his skin colour – it’s just never gonna happen.”

What’s the first thing you’d do if you were elected president?

“Probably spend more money on homeless people.”

Why is the US election important/Why is important for Americans to vote?

“We’re not the only free country, but [freedom], it’s a beautiful thing and that’s the beautiful thing about it; that you can do that and it gives you the right to bitch too. If you voted for someone you have the right to say something. A lot of people don’t and they just complain. A lot of people are just posers, ‘I hate Bush,’ and then they don’t even vote.”

ALEX KAPRANOS & BOB HARDY, [a]

Bush, Kerry, Nader or Other?

B: “I don’t think I’m eligible to vote in America.”

Who’s your fantasy presidential candidate?

B: “Will Smith or Will Ferrell.”

A: “The guy off the telly that played the president . . . Martin Sheen. I think Martin Sheen because the most important thing in a president is they have to be handsome, a really rugged, handsome looker. Will Smith would be brilliant though”.
