Former Hole frontwoman takes to the stage at Hiro
Courtney Love continued her solo comeback with an erratic but entertaining 90-minute set at Hiro Ballroom in New York last night (July 12).
The free show was met with high demand and a queue that stretched around the block hours before the scheduled 11pm performance time. Many fans were left disappointed as they were unable to gain entry to the venue, which reached capacity early in the evening.
During the set, which saw Love take the stage an hour after her scheduled set time, the singer reminded the crowd that she is on this low-key tour in order to test and familiarise her band with a crop of new songs.
The night had a ramshackle feel as a result of several incidents, including Love changing the setlist on a whim halfway through the night, almost falling into the crowd after stepping onto a monitor and even castigating her bass player for being out of tune during ‘How Dirty Girls Get Clean’.
The singer also showed her enthusiasm for the anthemic new ballad ‘Letter To God’ by explaining that “it has it’s Bon Jovi moments… but it’s fucking cool- so shut up.”
The set was:
‘Stand Up Motherfucker’
‘How Dirty Girls Get Clean’
‘Pacific Coast Highway’
‘How Dirty Girls Get Clean Pt 1’
‘Letter To God’
‘Never Go Hungry Again’
‘For Once In Your Life’
‘Happy Ending Story’
