Courtney Love has covered Jay-Z’s classic hit ’99 Problems’ – scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch her take on the song.
The singer performed ’99 Problems’ during an intimate gig at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on January 22 and fan footage has now surfaced on YouTube. Before she begins her version of the rap classic, Love says: “This either sucks or it’s genius, I don’t know.”
During her last-minute Sundance show, Love also performed Hole favourites including ‘Miss World’, ‘Skinny Little Bitch’ and ‘Northern Star’. She released her last album with the band, ‘Nobody’s Daughter’, in 2010.
Back in October, Love told Rolling Stone that she was planning to release a new single called ‘This Is War’ on February 7. Describing the track at the time, she said: “I’d put it out right now because it’s a two-minute, 59-second song and it’s sick, slamming, great. I think it’ll go Number One in the UK. However, in the United States, who fucking knows? I never thought I’d put out a 130, 135 BPM song. It’s a really fast rock song. I’m telling you, it’s probably the greatest rock song I’ve ever heard.”
’99 Problems’ originally appeared on Jay-Z‘s 2003 LP ‘The Black Album’ and was released as a single the following year, reaching Number 12 on the UK singles chart. It has since been acknowledged as a rap classic and in October 2011, NME placed it at number 24 on its “150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years” list.
