BRIT Awards 2009 – backstage gossip special

U2, Coldplay, Duffy – what went on behind the scenes

Welcome to the Daily Gossip: your daily stop-off to find out who in the world of music has been up to what.

Today it’s a BRIT Awards special – with all the backstage action from last night’s (February 18) bash.

From NME.COM’s spies:

Former Darkness man Justin Hawkins excitedly posed for photographs with two female fans on the edge of the backstage dancefloor.

‘The Office’ producer Ash Atalla was seen hanging out near the free make-up, tattoos and massage area.

Rom-com director Richard Curtis sipped red wine while standing by a pillar outside the party.

From the papers:

U2‘s The Edge spent the evening getting drinking tips from Elbow (Daily Mirror).

Meanwhile Bono said he wanted to be in Girls Aloud – to which bandmate Adam Clayton quipped, “Which one?” (The Sun).

Lady Gaga brought an entourage of 16 to the bash – but they had to go into her dressing room four at a time in rotation. The singer also said she had no idea who Girls Aloud were (The Sun).

Take That‘s Jason Orange got a fake tan backstage at the bash – he said he had it because he had a pale face due to the stress of the awards (Daily Record).

Kylie Minogue asked co-host Mat Horne to zip up the back of her dress for her (Daily Mirror).

Kings Of Leon defied their hairy image by getting free relaxing shaves backstage (Daily Mirror).

Pet Shop BoysChris Lowe had to dose himself up with medicine to perform at the bash because he had a cold (The Sun).

Coldplay‘s Chris Martin mucked around backstage before the bash kicked off, wheeling a mate around the corridors in a wheelchair (Daily Record).

Girls Aloud‘s Sarah Harding lost control of her pet pooch and had to go chasing after it backstage (Daily Mirror).

Her bandmate Cheryl Cole, meanwhile, had invited hubsnad, Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, to the bash after leaving him at home last year (Daily Mirror).

Backstage Estelle revealed that she has a new boyfriend who “works in movies” (Daily Mirror).

Alexa Chung refused to wear a Comic Relief red nose backstage – because it wouldn’t match her dress (Daily Mirror).

And a customary non-BRIT spot:

Marc Almond waited for a bus on Southwark Street close to the NME offices holding a plastic bag (from Alan).
