Albarn is promoting his solo album ‘Everyday Robots’ and played a gig at the Royale venue where played a mix of material from the record as well as selected cuts from the Gorillaz and Blur back catalogues.

Local music blog Vanyaland notes that Blur songs ‘Out Of Time’ and a brief section of ‘Intermission’ were played in the set while Gorillaz’ ‘Kids With Guns’ also featured.

Albarn previously unveiled the official video for ‘Mr Tembo’, which features Albarn and his band The Heavy Seas plus footage of the real Mr Tembo – an orphaned baby elephant Albarn met while travelling in Tanzania.

Speaking to NME, Albarn described Mr Tembo as a “beautiful little fella”, recalling the moment how after he played the song on his ukulele, the elephant “backed away and shat himself”.

Albarn’s debut solo album entered the Official UK Albums Chart at Number Two on May 4, when it was held off the top spot by Paolo Nutini’s ‘Caustic Love’. Next month he will headline the Latitude festival in Suffolk alongside The Black Keys and Two Door Cinema Club.
