D’Angelo unveils long-awaited new track ‘Sugah Daddy’ – listen

Track may feature on singer's forthcoming new album 'Black Messiah'

D’Angelo has unveiled a new song, ‘Sugah Daddy’.

The singer has frequently performed the track on-stage since 2012, but a studio version, credited to D’Angelo and The Vanguard, has now been released as part of Red Bull’s 20Before15 series. Click below to listen.

‘Sugah Daddy’ comes just a few days after D’Angelo announced his forthcoming third album ‘Black Messiah’ – his first LP since the release of ‘Voodoo’ in 2000. A short trailer video was shared on Thursday (December 11) via D’Angelo’s management website, while a Twitter post showing the supposed artwork claimed that the record will drop this Tuesday (December 16).

Other potential ‘Black Messiah’ tracks include ‘The Charade’. Footage of D’Angelo’s band working on the song, as well as ‘Sugah Daddy’, was released online in January.

D’Angelo has also announced plans for ‘The Second Coming Tour’, which will see him playing Birmingham Academy (February 17), Manchester Apollo (18) and London Apollo (20) alongside his band The Vanguard, which is made up of bassist Pino Palladino, guitarists Jesse Johnson and Isaiah Sharkey, keyboardist Cleo ‘Pookie’ Sample and John Blackwell on drums.

D’Angelo will play:

Birmingham Academy (February 17, 2015)
Manchester Apollo (18)
London Apollo (20)
