R&B singer makes unscheduled appearance at Brooklyn Bowl
D’Angelo performed a rare live show in New York last night (March 4).
The R&B singer played at the Brooklyn Bowl alongside ?uestlove of The Roots at a show billed The Soulquarians: Brothers in Arms. ?uestlove hosts a weekly DJ set at the venue and invited D’Angelo to perform live on the night, announcing the guest star to fans on Twitter mere hours before the already sold out show.
Like Justin Bieber in the UK, D’Angelo was also late to the stage with ?uestlove stepping up on stage to placate fans who were growing restless. Pitchfork reports that the drummer told fans that: “Y’all waited 13 years. You can wait another two hours. I wanted to recreate a moment. We just jam and see what happens. Lower your expectations.”
The pair eventually made it out to the stage together, however, running through a set comprising new material, old hits and cover versions of Prince, Sly & the Family Stone and The SOS Band. Scroll down to see footage of D’Angelo performing at the Brooklyn Bowl now.
