A colourful creation of the Foo Fighters frontman

A portrait of Dave Grohl has been created using hundreds of Rubik’s cubes.

The Foo Fighters frontman has been portrayed using the colourful, cubed 80’s toy by Instagram user Giovanni Contardi.

He claims to be a world record holder and has also created portraits of Finn Wolfhard and Gigi Hadid. You can see a ‘making-of’ video of the Grohl portrait below as well as the finished piece.

Last week, Grohl announced that he and his mother Virginia Hanlon Grohl are producing a brand new documentary series based on the latter’s book From the Cradle to the Stage.

The book compiled interviews from the mothers of Beastie Boys’ Mike D, R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe, Pharrell Williams, Tom Morello and more about what it was like to raise children who later became famous rock stars.

“I’m excited to introduce the viewing public to the strong, loving women who have supported the insistent dreams of their musical sons and daughters,” Virginia said of the project.

“To Sandi Clark, who learned the music business from a book and launched her son’s [Gary Clark Jr.] career – and Mary Weinrib, who had to cancel her own dreams of an education to allow her son [Geddy Lee] to thrive with Rush. To Janis Winehouse, who recognised her daughter [Amy]’s extreme talent, but was helpless to control the demons that brought that brilliant career to a tragic end.

“Their backgrounds vary greatly, but they have so much in common,” she continued. “Viewers will join all the mothers around a table when they meet for the first time at a celebratory dinner where secrets and stories will be shared and compared.”

Dave added that he was “beyond excited” about the show, saying that he was in debt to his mother: “Plus … I owe her one.”
