The artist released his last album 'The Next Day' in 2013
David Bowie has confirmed that he is working on new music, saying it will be released “soon”.
The elusive artist issued a statement to be read at a recent charity event at the 12 Bar in London, which was held to celebrate 50 years of Bowie’s music and raise money for the Terrance Higgins Trust. The statement promised “more music” and read:
This city is even better than the one you were in last year, so remember to dance, dance, dance. And then sit down for a minute, knit something, then get up and run all over the place. Do it. Love on ya. More music soon. David”
Bowie’s spokesperson has confirmed to NME that the statement was from the singer.
David Bowie released his last album, ‘The Next Day’, in 2013. His 24th studio album, it went to Number One in the Official Albums Chart and was a critical and commercial success – nominated for the Mercury Prize, Best Rock Album at the Grammy Awards and British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards.
A film centred around the Victoria & Albert Museum’s David Bowie exhibition, titled David Bowie Is Happening Now, is being proposed for a global cinema release later this year.
Geoffrey Marsh, Director of Theatre and Performance at the museum, recently discussed the wider release of the film, which was previously shown on one day only to coincide with the final day of the exhibition last August, Marsh said: “We were very pleased about the way it went, we had 200 screenings of it in Britain from Cornwall to the north of Scotland and sold about 35,000 tickets. At the time we didn’t know if we wanted to do it more broadly and we’ve been looking at that over the last few months because we’d very much like to release it globally at some point in the future. We’re currently working on that, but we haven’t got a date yet.”
