Guitarist and producer announced his decision to leave in August
Footage of Chris Walla‘s final gig with Death Cab For Cutie has emerged online.
Walla announced his plan to leave the band earlier this year, claiming in a statement released on August 13 that “Deciding to leave the band was not easy” but that he “longs for the unknown.”
The guitarists final performance took place on in Victoria, British Columbia at the Rifflandia Festival on Saturday (September 13). Footage of the band playing set-closer ‘Marching Bands of Manhattan’ and ending with a group hug can be seen below. “Thank you so much for the last 17 years, Chris,” said frontman Ben Gibbard before the band left the stage.
Prior to his departure, Walla recorded the eighth Death Cab For Cutie album. Walla has produced a number of Death Cab For Cutie albums, as well as records by Tegan & Sara, The Postal Service and The Decemberists. The band’s new album has been produced by Rich Costey (Frank Turner, Muse). Death Cab For Cutie put out their most recent album ‘Codes And Keys’ in 2011.
Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard will appear on the new Foo Fighters album, ‘Sonic Highways’.
