SWEET SUBURBIA

Travelogue of less-than-sunny Lanarkshire features Mogwai and The Delgados...

Mogwai and The Delgados feature in the first programme in John Peel’s Sound Of The Suburbs, which goes out tomorrow, Saturday, on Channel 4 at 11.40 pm.

The show breaks from recent music on TV tradition and not only looks outside the capital, but searches out the music scenes in the more unlovely backwaters of the nation such as Bradford, South Wales and Humberside.

The first show looks at Lanarkshire and the environment that spawned everyone from seminal Scottish legends the BMX BanditsDuggy features in the programme – to Mogwai and the whole new generation of Scottish avant-punk stars.

Music on TV is traditionally crap: is getting out of London at least one step forward? Are there any TV shows in Scotland that feature bands like Mogwai, Bis or Future Pilot aka? Do they get radio play there? If not why not? Tell us what you think. Post a message on Angst
