DIIV played six new songs at a gig at Williamsburg Hall of Music in Brooklyn, New York.

The band the second of two shows at the venue on July 11 and aired material which is thought to feature on their forthcoming second album. Billboard writes that the band are currently in the process of recording the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Oshiin’ and added that the new material played at the shows was reminiscent of The War On Drugs. Last year the band unveiled new song ‘Dust’ and frontman Zachary Cole Smith said to DIY that the new record would be darker than the band’s debut.

Chatting about the direction the new songs were taking, Smith said: “I wouldn’t say the new record is going to be more aggressive as a whole. Aggression is one thing that I loosely explored on the first record, I feel like on the next record I can push the envelope there. On the next record, I can push the envelope in a bunch of different directions. It’s definitely going to be a darker record based on how my life has been personally, since the last record came out.”
