Dinosaur Jr’s Lou Barlow announces first solo album in six years

Titled 'Brace The Wave', the nine-track album will be released on September 4

Dinosaur Jr‘s Lou Barlow has announced his first solo album in six years.

Titled ‘Brace The Wave’, the nine-track album will be released on September 4 on Domino Records. Barlow recorded it in his hometown of Easthampton, Massachusetts over a period of six days with engineer Justin Pizzoferrato, who has also worked with the bassist on several recent Dinosaur Jr albums.

‘Brace The Wave’ will be Barlow’s third solo album to be released in his own name following 2005’s ‘Emoh’ and 2009’s ‘Goodnight Unknown’. Watch an album trailer featuring snippets of several new tracks and commentary from Barlow himself below.

A press release explains that ‘Brace The Waves’ finds Barlow “exploring yet another transitional period in his life”. Several tracks are said to be “traditional-style folk songs that he performed live in the studio”, while others “employ his early methods of tuning his ukulele down low and writing during the recording process”.

Barlow will support the album with a run of live dates in Europe and the US this autumn, culminating in a single UK show at London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on October 5. Check out the full tracklisting for ‘Brace The Wave’ below.
