Example appeared on original version of Dizzee's hit but 'didn't think it was right'
“Let me let you in on something I haven’t told no one anyway, I actually gave that to Example first,” the rapper told BBC Radio 1xtra. “He did it and then he didn’t think it was right, so respect due to him, he said nah it’s not right let’s leave it.”
Williams then stepped in and their version peaked at Number Five on the Official UK Singles Chart last month (June). During his interview on BBC Radio 1xtra, Dizzee also revealed that he recorded the original vocal for Calvin Harris’s ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’, which became a Number Two hit last year (2012) after Example joined the track.
“There’s a track that Example did with Calvin Harris, I had that before Example, same thing, it didn’t sound right with me on that. That’s just the way things go, you know what I mean,” Dizzee explained.
Meanwhile, Dizzee Rascal has just unveiled his follow-up to ‘Goin Crazy’, a single titled ‘I Don’t Need A Reason’. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to give it a listen.
‘Goin’ Crazy’ and ‘I Don’t Need A Reason’ are both taken from the rapper’s upcoming album ‘The Fifth’ . The London-born artist recently claimed that he wants to put a “different spin” on EDM with the album.
Speaking to NME about the sound of the record, Dizzee Rascal said: “I’d say it’s more a Europop sound, the sort of synths on it, you know? I went out and made this record in Miami with no distractions, working with people like RedOne, because I wanted to have a more international sound this time, and yeah, you can hear it, definitely. Most EDM, like Tiesto and Calvin Harris, has singing on it, so I wanted to put some rap on it, give it a different spin. But it’s still me.”
‘The Fifth’ will be released later this year and features collaborations with Jessie J, will.i.am and Robbie Williams. The album also sees the rapper teaming up with Calvin Harris, Tinie Tempah, Bun B, Trae the Truth and Angel as well as songwriters Warren Okay ‘Oak’ Felder, Andrew ‘Pop’ Wansell, Jean-Baptiste Kouame and RedOne.
