DJ Premier's debut solo album will accompany a documentary on D&D Studios

DJ Premier has announced new detail on his work on a star-studded debut solo album entitled ‘Last Session At 320’, which he says will feature Snoop Dogg, Nas, Dr Dre, Christina Aguilera and Ed Sheeran.

The album will accompany a documentary focused on New York studio D&D, according to Premier. The studio has seen recordings by Nas, Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, Rakim and Foxy Brown, while the fourth-floor 37th Street location was rebranded as HeadQCourterz in 2003 and closed its doors on the last day of 2014.

Heltah Skeltah, Black Moon and Smif-N-Wessun are also amongst contributors lined up for the album. Premier had announced the title back in January, but only hinted at some unspecified big-name contributors. Eminem is also mentioned as a possible collaboration on the new album.

A previous documentary entitled ‘Re:Generation’ focused in part on Premier and his duo Gang Starr’s work.

A Gang Starr biopic could also be in the pipeline, according to Premier, but not in the short term, in part because of work still to be done on his late MC Guru’s estate. The other member of Gang Starr died in April 2010, of cancer. Speaking of the biopic, DJ Premier said: “I said let’s do it, but let’s wait and make sure we have some time to get a really good script. I’m not in a rush to do it. I want to do it when it all comes together… As far as the idea, I’m interested.”

Last October, Premier released a free mixtape that features various deep album tracks, B-sides and other rarities from Gang Starr’s history. Titled ‘Gang Starr: True Heads Merch Mix’, the 88-minute release was made available to download via Premier’s website.

He also played London’s Forum back in mid-September.
