The bizarre incident which 'freaked out' the singer happened in the 1970s

Dolly Parton has revealed that a hardcore fan once left their baby outside her house, leaving the child with a note saying its name was Jolene, after her 1974 song.

The country music singer and songwriter explained that when she hit the big time in the 1970s, her followers became a touch “fanatical”. She said:

Years ago, when I first started being a big star, I had fans that were fanatical. It was when ‘Jolene’ was a big hit. We came home one day and there was a baby in a box at our gate with a note in it. The note said, ‘My name is Jolene, my momma has left me here and she wants you to have me’. Of course, we all freaked out!

Parton explained that she contacted the Department Of Health And Human Services, who took the abandoned child away. To this day she doesn’t know what happened to the baby after that, reports The Windy City Times via Fox News.

Dolly Parton is currently on her world tour, which arrives in the UK on August 20 at Glasgow SECC. She plays two dates at London O2 Arena on September 7-8. Her 41st studio album, ‘Better Day’, is released on August 29.
