Drake’s on-stage comments land Toronto Raptors basketball team £15k fine

Rapper accidentally broke NBA rules during recent live show

Drake has inadvertently landed the Toronto Raptors with a $25,000 (£15,000) fine.

The Canadian rapper is an official ambassador of his local basketball team and recently made comments about Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant while performing at his own OVO Fest in Toronto on August 4.

Durant was in the audience for the performance, during which Drake was joined on stage by a number of guests, including Lauryn Hill, and hinted that he would like the player to join the Raptors. “I just want to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto,” Billboard reports Drake said to thunderous applause. Durant will become a free agent in 2016. These comments technically count as violating anti-tampering rules, and the NBA have issued the fine.

Drake is currently touring the US with Lil Wayne in a live show which sees the pair battle each other during one segment of the show. An app can be downloaded prior to the performance which allows fans in the audience to “help their favourite rapper ‘power up’ and impact their performances in real time”.

Both rappers teamed up on new song ‘Grindin’ to promote the tour.
