Canadian rapper hits the UK and also doffs his cap to Adele and Wiley...
Drake paid tribute to his favourite London artists during his show at London‘s O2 Arena last night (March 26).
The Canadian rapper, who was in town for the first of two shows at the 20,000-capacity venue, said “Y’all got so much of the greatest talent in the world here [in London],” before going on to namecheck Florence And The Machine and Wiley as some of his favourite performers.
“I feel like London is responsible for so much of my career,” he told the crowd. “So this isn’t just a concert, it’s a party, it’s a celebration of me!”
The rapper later joked about Adele during a section of the show in which he singled out members of the audience for attention. Speaking to two fans he thought might have struggled to decide whether to spend money on his show or Adele’s, who played at the venue last month, he said he was glad they chose to come and see him over the ’21’ singer. “I mean I love Adele but she done sold a lot of records,” he quipped.
The ‘Take Care’ musician could also be heard trying on his best London accent, telling audience members to “Big up yourself, bruv!”.
After giving thanks to the crowd, Drake again gave a shout out to Florence Welch who was in attendance for the show, and could be seen dancing enthusiastically with friends on the VIP platform in the middle of the venue.
