Eric Clapton and Tom Petty secure high new entries as Magic hit Number One in Singles Chart
Eric Clapton failed to topple Ed Sheeran in the race for this week’s Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart with the young singer-songwriter securing his sixth week on top.
Sheeran finished ahead of ‘The Breeze’ by Eric Clapton & Friends as well as Dolly Parton’s greatest hits album ‘Blue Smoke’.
‘The Breeze’ was organised by Clapton and is a tribute to late songwriter JJ Cale, who passed away in 2013. The album features collaborations with musicians including Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, and John Mayer.
Elsewhere in the Official Album Chart, Tom Petty is new at Number Seven while Neon Jungle enter at Number Seven with their debut album ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. The girlband made headlines earlier this week when LA based singer Banks claimed that they did not ask permission to cover her song ‘Waiting Game’ on the album.
Meanwhile, Cher Lloyd is new at Number 21 with her latest solo album ‘Sorry I’m Late’. Jenny Lewis just missed out on a Top 40 position with her new album ‘The Voyager’ landing at Number 47.
Over in the Official Singles Chart, the Number One spot went to Magic! and their debut single ‘Rude!’ The Canadian reggae act knocked Cheryl Cole’s ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ off in the process.
Further new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage come from Zhu (3), Bars & Melody (4), Melissa Steel (6), Bakermat (10), Vic Mensa (29), Naughty Boy (36) The Script (37) and Maroon 5 (39).
