Manchester band's sixth album narrowly ahead at midweek point

Elbow are battling Paloma Faith for the Number One spot on the Official Albums Chart this week with their new album narrowly in the lead.

Official Chart Company data reveals that the band’s sixth album ‘The Take Off and Landing of Everything’ is currently ahead of ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ by Faith, which is at Number Two. Elsewhere in the Top Five, Metronomy are at Number Five with new album ‘Love Letters’. The final chart will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (March 16).

There are eight other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart Update with Dr Hook’s new Best Of collection, ‘Timeless’ new at Number 12, while Brighton band Architects are on course to score their highest charting album to date with ‘Lost Forever/Lost Together’ at Number 13.

Elsewhere, East London MC Ghetts is new in at Number 17 while Room 94 and Dan Croll both enter the Top 20 at Numbers 18 and 19 respectively. Joan As Police Woman (27), The Twang (31) and Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance (33) also appear in the Top 40.

Meanwhile, in the Official Singles Chart, Tinie Tempah looks set to reach Number One alongside Dvbbs and Borgeous with their collaboration ‘Tsunami (Jump)’, knocking Route 94’s ‘My Love’ off the top spot after just one week.

Other new entries in this week’s Singles Chart at the midweek point come from Enrique Igleseas (3), Flo Rida (4), Pixie Lott (6), Kylie Minogue (7), Christina Perri (13) and Lea Michele (39).
