Gaga is rumoured to be releasing fourth album in 2016
Gaga is godmother to Elton John’s children and is also believed to be releasing her new studio album at some point in 2016. It is rumoured that she is working with producers including RedOne and Mark Ronson.
Speaking to Zane Lowe in a new interview on Beats 1, John let slip that he is writing alongside Gaga for the album and let his host in on what the songs are sounding like.
“I’m writing with Gaga tomorrow,” he said on Tuesday (January 19). “I’ve heard two songs, which are killer. They’re just great songs. It’s like back to the early stuff of hers – like ‘You and I’ and the Bruce Springsteen one (as I always call it), ‘Bad Romance’.”
The pair have previously only written together on film and TV projects, including a song on the Gnomeo & Juliet soundtrack and another on a Muppets Thanksgiving special.
John went on to compare the new music to Carole King’s 1971 album ‘Tapestry’ as well as critiquing Gaga’s third album ‘Artpop’, saying that the record “was not a great idea.”
“It was not a good album and I think she would admit that,” he said. “Then in the midst of that, she did three things which were kind of amazing. She did the whole tour and album with Tony Bennett, which did amazingly well. She sang the Julie Andrews tribute at the Oscars, which everybody loved. And she was on American Horror Story.
Gaga recently said her time on American Horror Story has informed her new music, stating that focusing her energy on acting allowed her to approach music with added clarity.
Meanwhile, Tony Bennett recently revealed that he is recording a second jazz album with Lady Gaga.
The pair released ‘Cheek To Cheek’ in September 2014, a cover album of popular jazz standards including ‘Anything Goes’ and ‘Let’s Face the Music and Dance.’ Bennett has said that the next album will consist entirely of Cole Porter songs.
