ELTON JOHN’S ERFURT TRIBUTE

The star plays a charity show to raise money for those affected by the tragedy...

SIR ELTON JOHN paid tribute to victims of April’s school gun massacre in ERFURT, Germany during his show in the city last night (June 16).

Disgruntled ex-pupil Robert Steinhauser, a 19-year-old who had been expelled from school the previous autumn, walked into Erfurt’s Johann Gutenberg Gymnasium on April 26 and went on a 20-minute shooting spree killing 13 teachers, two students and a police officer. He then turned the gun on himself.

Performing in front of 7,500, >Sir Elton said: “We cannot play the music without thinking of why we are here tonight.”

Proceeds from the show will go to a local charity that helps those affected by the tragedy.

Sir Elton added: “We were thinking maybe we shouldn’t come to Erfurt to play because it would be in bad taste. This is our tribute to those people.

“We’re very proud to be here and we hope we can do justice by playing our very best,” BBC reports.
